Het is een wetenschappelijk onderbouwde methode waarbij alles is geoptimaliseerd om jou zo effectief mogelijk te ondersteunen bij het leren. Het is niet effici\u00ebnt om de gehele lijst in \u00e9\u00e9n keer te gaan leren. In plaats daarvan wordt binnen de overhoormethode \u2018Leren\u2019 een lijst opgesplitst in sets. Hierdoor leer je de lijst stukje voor stukje. De setgrootte is geoptimaliseerd voor de meest effici\u00ebnte manier van leren. De opbouw in grootte zorgt voor distanti\u00ebring van woordcombinatieherhalingen binnen een leersessie. Dit heeft een positief effect op retentie <a href=\"#1\">[1]<\/a>. Dit zijn <em>In gedachten<\/em>, <em>Meerkeuze<\/em>, <em>Hints<\/em> en <em>Spelling<\/em>. Van bijvoorbeeld meerkeuzevragen is bekend dat wanneer competitieve incorrecte alternatieve antwoorden worden gepresenteerd, deze overhoormethode een versterkte verwerking en opslag van de gevraagde informatie <a href=\"#1\">[2]<\/a>. Een ander voorbeeld van bewezen effectiviteit is <em>In gedachten<\/em>, in wetenschappelijke literatuur <em>flashcards<\/em> genoemd. Zo\u2019n opbouw in moeilijksheidsgraag is essentieel voor het behouden van motivatie van leerlingen richting de meer uitdagende en complexe vraagtypes waarbij retentie hoog is <a href=\"#1\">[5]<\/a>. Leerlingen die enkel receptief worden getoetst kennen een voordeel als ze ook op deze receptieve wijze geleerd hebben <a href=\"#1\">[6]<\/a>. Wanneer echter enkel productief wordt getoetst kennen leerlingen die op productieve wijze geleerd hebben een voordeel <a href=\"#1\">[6]<\/a>. Wanneer zowel receptieve als productieve retentie het doel is en ook op beide wijzen wordt getoetst is het het meest effici\u00ebnt ook beide kanten op te leren. Een gevonden effect is dat wanneer vocabulair eenmaal geleerd is, het kritiek is voor het ophalen van de geleerde kennis uit het langetermijngeheugen om herhaaldelijk te testen, in plaats van herhaaldelijk te leren. Met deze methode vindt een grotere consolidatie van het geleerde plaats <a href=\"#1\">[7]<\/a>.
